Marbled calf, richly gilt spine with 6 raised bands. First edition. Saxe (1696-1750) was one of the great generals of the eighteenth century who distinguished himself in the Austrian war of succession (1740-1748). He was also the eldest of 350 illegitimate progeny of King Frederick Augustus of Poland.
-Provenance: With the ex libris of comte Charles d'Oultremont de Wegimont. Prince bishop of Liège (1716-1771).
