Half leather; 32x20.5 cm. Engraved general title by W. Akersloot. Nicely engraved, with four medaillons with the appropriate professions, the whole in baroque style. Two sec- tions of his masterwork, both edited in 1647 are bound together: 1). Geometria theoretica ac practica: continens Linearum, superficierum, ac corporum quorumlibet dimensionum regulas, demonstrationes & figuras perfectissimas. Studio atque operâ Alberti Girardi recognita & multis notis illustrata. Amst., Typis Joannis Janssonii, 1647. (ii: printed title), 52 pp. and 47 double-page cupperengravings, numbered 1Geo- 42Geo and 5 Geo2. The text-pages are seriously browned and with brown spots, 1 margin partly damaged, but the plates are in good condition. 2) Engraved title: La perspective contenant tant la theorie que la practique et Instruction fondamentale d?icelle, remise en volume plus commode qu?auparavant... Amst., Chez Ian Iansson, 1629. Nicely engraved with the symbolic persons Pictura and Geometria, a bust of Vitruvius and geometrical designs. The printed title differs from the engraved one: Opticae, sive Perspectivae, pars prima: continens Praeter regulas ac demonstrationes Opticae perfectissimas, Geometriae, Fortificationis, & praesertim Architecturae figuras acuratas. Amst., Joannis Janssonii, 1647. (ii: engr. title), (ii: printed title), 50, (ii: blank) text-pages ?Scenographiae, pars prima ? pars quarta. and 80 double-page copperengravings, num- bered 1PM ? 80PM. The text-pages browned and with serious brown spots, but the plates are in rather good condition: a few plates with restspots and to the end large, but marginal brown spots (not affecting the plates). With i.a. 2 nice views of a castle and 6 circular engravings, depicting at Rome: Colosseum (2), Thermae Antoniani, Thermae Diocletiani (2) and Templum Dianae engraved by H. Hondius.
¶ The 2 works in 1 binding from the 19th century. Half calf, spine gilt in compartments, covers with marbled paper (leather and marbled paper sl. rubbed, corners bumped). ¶ The first engraved title with very short inner-margin, outer margin a bit frayed; convent-stamp on verso, old ownership inscription; printed title with waterstain and on verso convent-stamps ¶ The same collation as the ZB Zürich and STCN. ¶ 2 important works of the 4 published by Janssonius. ¶ Rare
