First edition of Baldaeus description of India and Sri Lanka, with extensive description of the indian mythology and religion.

First edition. The book gives extensive information on the Dutch settlements in Southern India, mentioning, among other things, the dreaded Malabar pirates infesting the western coast of India. The second part of the work deals with Ceylon, of which it contains a detailed description. The third part deals with religious practises and old Indian fables.
The author (1632-1672) was a Dutch clergyman who became a missionary in the Malabar and Choromandel districts.
Appelmans?s signature appears on the engraving on page 121. With one text part not called for in Landwehr VOC 1502, one quire (*) between F2 and F3 in part II on Ceylon.
